"Rice" that is produced 500,000,000 tons in the world a year and in Asian countries, for a long time, rice has been known as nutritious food. We have known experimentally the advantage of unpolished rice. However, chemical mechanism of rice components to health has not been cleared yet.

| IP6 and inositol, both the Vitamin B group to be much in rice, has been discovered to be an numerous anti-cancer agent by Prof. A. K. M. Shamsuddin, The University of Maryland. This function has been well proved by Japanese and American chemists recently. These components also have other functions and benefits to health. Thus related studies has been getting much interests day by day.

Ferulic acid andγ-oryzanol, other rice components to be also rich in rice bran, have several functions to health. This has been also supported by interesting research done much by chemists.
Main theme of symposium was anti-cancer action of IP6 and inositol and anti-oxidant function of ferulic acid and γ-oryzanol. In addition to that at the symposium other components of rice has been taken up and discussed widely by researchers. Not only about 30 well known invited speakers but other researchers and specialists worldwide discussed about the potential and possibility of rice components at the symposium and such hard discussion has stimulated a lot for further research on rice components.
