MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the First International Symposium on "DISEASE PREVENTION BY IP6 & OTHER RICE COMPONENTS", may I extend to you a warm invitation to attend the Symposium and to visit Kyoto.

The Organizing Committee has strived hard to offer participants a balanced and interesting scientific program and exhibition area. The symposium will include diverse topics ranging from cell biology, basic cancer research, clinical medicine to dietetics to organic, and synthetic chemistry and biochemistry. We are pleased to provide this Advance Announcement which amongst other things lists the scientific themes and the invited speakers along with the tentative title of their lectures.

Rice is one of the most important food in the world and rice bran generated in the rice polishing process is not well utilized at present. As Japan has a relatively long experience in utilizing this by-product, we chose here for the first symposium. We hope that it will contribute to the further progress of research and development of rice and new rice-related products in rice producing countries throughout the world.

At the symposium venue, there will also be an exhibition area where rice-derived products and products from rice will be presented.

Established as the seat of the Imperial Court in the 8th Century, Kyoto prospered as the center of government, commerce and the arts, and still today it remains the cultural capital of Japan with almost 2000 shrines and temples, yet it is also a modern metropolis with comfortable accommodations for visitors.

We look forward to welcoming you at the venue.
Sincerely yours,

Takatoshi Ishikawa M.D.
Chairman of the Organizing Committee
