Night spots
Mt. Daimonji
You can find Mt. Daimonji (Nyoigatake) in Northern-East on the map of Kyoto
City. You also can see a Chinese character, "Dai" (means "Big" and the
shape of the character is similar to a person who stands up with keeping
the hands to the sides.), on it when you come to the city. It is very
famous as one of the five mountains for a ceremony to send spirits of dead
people on 16th of Aug. every year..... You can read the story in a typical
Japanese guidebook.
I recommend you to climb up the mountain in the daytime instead of watching
up it because you have a nice view of Kyoto city after an hour-good
exercise.
The way: The starting point is the gate of Ginkakuji temple, one of
the famous temples. I hope you can find the way to the gate in a guide
book for Kyoto city because the temple is very famous.
Please go to the left when you look at the gate. Turn to the right in a
40m-walk when you get a gate of shrine. Keep a walk along a small stream
for 15 minutes. Go across the stream through a small bridge when you come
to the terminal of the way along the stream. Clime up with a 45
minutes-walk. You had better bring water and a map. Good luck!
Museum of Kansetsu Hashimoto
Kansetsu Hashimoto is a famous painter of Japanese paint. This museum has
the house, which he lived in, with a wonderful Japanese garden. There is a
restaurant. you can have a lunch with a good view of the garden. Need
reservation for the lunch. No reservation to enter the garden and the
museum, however, it costs 800-1,000 yen.
Place: Just near the fist traffic signal from coming down from Ginkakuji
mentioned above.
Steam locomotion
Umekoji steam locomotion museum has about 10 locomotion. One of them work
s at 11:00,13:30,15:30. I think there is only one demonstration in an
ordinary day.
But I am afraid that they have no English explanation.
Place: West of Kyoto Station. It takes 20 minutes on foot. Alternatively,
take a bus and get off at the stop, Umekoji Koen (Park) Mae.
Fee: 400 yen.

Closed: Monday
Night spots
Here you have good bars. They have many foreigners as bartenders and
customers. I hope you can get much better information of Kyoto there.
Isn't It.
This bar has a wide space, where a hundred can be, I think. All of food
and drink cost 500 yen. No fee to enter it on the ordinary days but you
need small fee on Saturday and Sunday.
Spot:Go two blocks to the south from the southern-east corner of Kawaramach
i-Sanjo. Take a 20-meter walk to the east. You can find the bar on BF.
Africa
Here are also a lot of foreigners. You should buy a ticket for drink and
food first.
Spot:Go three blocks to the south from the southern-east corner of Kawarama
chi-Sanjo. Take a 20-meter walk to the east. You can find the bar on 1st
floor of Rokkaku terrace building.
