TSUNO’s business “utilizing rice bran highly effectively “itself follows the idea of SDGs.

Since its foundation, TSUNO group has been prioritize quality control, environment and safety as the basis of all corporate activities, including research and development, production, distribution and sales.

Believing “environmentally friendly products bring people’s beauty and health”, we proactively continue and keep on improving our sustainable corporate activities.

We’d like to introduce the summary of our current initiatives in line with the SDGs goals.

Goal2　- End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture

Rice is one of the world’s three major grains, but rice bran generated from the rice is often used only as fertilizer or feed. However, we believe using rice bran also as “food” will promote reducing poverty and hunger.

Goal3　- Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages

By promoting research and development of functional ingredients contained in rice bran, we contribute to people’s health. The effects of these functional ingredients on health promotion, the mechanism of action in lifestyle disease prevention and cancer prevention/treatment have been reported, and they are widely utilized as final products in over 40 countries in the world.

Goal5　- Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls

We provide women-friendly work environment, enhanced maternity leaves and childcare leave systems both for men and women. And we have established proper return to work system for employees after parental leaves to work comfortably. We enhance female executives including our president.

Goal7　- Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all

All rice bran oil and fine chemical products are refined using carbon neutral raw materials from rice bran or plants origin. We also run recycling business. We collect inedible oil generated from rice bran oil manufacturing process as well as used edible oil from households and recycling them as oleo chemical products that are used for ingredients of soaps, paints, inks or lubricants etc..

We are challenging for zero emission by making maximum efforts to save energy and utilize industrial wastes discharged from the production process for heat source of our factory and so on.

In Addition, at TSUNO Development Co., Ltd., we own solar power station and generate solar power.

Goal8　- Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all

We adopt various employment forms to suit for employees with different backgrounds including people with disabilities and contract works. We also accept flexible work styles such as shorter working hours and remote work considering recent demands.

Goal9　- Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation

As a pioneer in rice bran research, we have been working on factory maintenance and technological innovation for many years. We have been investigating new method of utilizing rice bran and conducting research and development of manufacturing processes that are more environmentally friendly.

Goal11　- Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable

In the case of disaster, in order to enable local people to carry out quick relief operation, we discussed with local municipality and provide a convenient space to keep emergency supplies on our company premises. We have opportunities regularly to build up close relationships with local people and children such as holding events with them or giving lectures at a local collage, etc. By doing so, we prepare the environment for both sides to be able to support each other in any case.

Goal17　- Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development

Tsuno Food Industrial Co.,LTD. has organized an international symposium to become a bridge between the rice producing countries and the consuming countries in the world. We also actively interacting with foreign countries through participation in international exhibitions. We aim to contribute to further development of rice research, people’s health and environmental protection.
